PARTICIPANTS OF ARMY WAR COLLEGE NIGERIA EMBARK ON GEO- STRATEGIC TOUR TO SOUTH AFRICA AND EGYPT

The participants of Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Course 6/2022 undertook a Geo- Strategic Study Tour to the Republics of South Africa and Egypt. The tour which was conducted from 6 – 12 August 2022 is part of an important component of the National Security and Organisation of Defence Module and constitutes a vital part of the College’s programme for the participants.

The tour was designed to expose the participants to the geo- strategic environment as well as afford   them the opportunity to appreciate the link between geo- strategic mechanisms and Nigeria’s foreign policy posture towards countries within and outside the subregion. The theme for the Geo-Strategic Study Tour was “Defence Production: A panacea for Evolving Security Challenges”.

The Overall Tour Director, was the Commandant of the College, Major General Bamidele Alli Alabi, while the team leader for Group 2 that visited the Republic of Egypt was Brigadier General Umar Mohammed Alkali, Deputy Commandant/ Director of Studies. The Director of Coordination, Brigadier General Olawale Mathew Oyekola led Group 1 to South Africa.

During the tour, the groups were conducted round selected Defence Production establishments of the countries visited. They were also briefed on the processes involved in the production as well as collaborative efforts and opportunities for interested friendly countries. The interactive sessions during the tour afforded the participants opportunities to interrogate the defence production agencies with a view to suggesting ways of improving Nigeria’s Defence Production capabilities.
