ARMY WAR COLLEGE NIGERIA HOLDS ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM ON THE NIGERIAN CIVIL WAR

The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) on 3 August 2022, held its annual Symposium on the Nigerian Civil War for Participants of Course 6/2022 at the College premises, WU Bassey Barracks, Abuja. The year 2022 Symposium is the third edition to be organized by the College. The key objectives of the symposium are to improve Professional Military Education and provide a forum for experts to deliver research findings on selected occurrences during the Nigerian Civil War. The theme of the symposium was “Defence Production and Defence Procurement in the Nigerian Civil War: Lessons for Operational Level Commanders

The Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, was represented by the Director Training, Army Headquarters, Maj Gen Oluyemi Olatoye. Other dignitaries who graced the Symposium include Principal Staff Officers from Army Headquarters, Directors General of Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Defence Research and Development Bureau and the Nigerian Army Resource Center. Others include Commanders, Directors, representatives of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, academia, Military Assistance Partners,amongst others. The first paper titled “Defence Production and Defence Procurement in the Nigerian Civil War: Lessons for Operational Level Commanders” was delivered by Dr Joel Ebute, a Research Fellow, Army War College Nigeria.

The second paper was presented by Associate Professor Hussaini Jibrin, Department of History and War Studies, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna. The 2 papers were discussed by Lt Gen CI Obiakor (Rtd), Maj Gen MB Obi (Rtd) and the DG NARC Maj Gen GA Wahab (Rtd).  The interactive session was moderated by Prof CMB Ogbogbo of the Nigerian Army Resource Center, Abuja. Highpoints of the symposium  were presentation of souvenirs and group photograph.
