US ARMY WAR COLLEGE HOLDS THREE-DAY LECTURES FOR PARTICIPANTS OF ARMY WAR COLLEGE NIGERIA COURSES 7/2023

The Army War College Nigeria had organized a three-day lecture series for the participants of Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Course 7/2023 in collaboration with the prestigious US Army War College. The focus of the lectures was on the topic “Operational Art and Campaigning; The US Approach,” providing participants with valuable insights into design methodology and strategic decision-making from the perspective of the United States Army.

The Commandant AWCN, Major General IB Maina, ably represented by the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies Brigadier General UM Alkali expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the guest lecturers for their unwavering commitment to the success of the exercise. He highlighted the invaluable contributions made by the resource persons, emphasizes that their presence and expertise would undoubtedly have a profound impact on the college’s mission which is “To Produce Well Trained, Educated, and Inspired Operational Level Leaders for the Nigerian Army.

During the lecture series, the participants delved into the intricacies of operational art, exploring the concepts of planning, execution, and assessment of military campaigns. The participants were exposed to case studies and real-world scenarios, allowing them to apply the knowledge gained and analyze the complexities of modern warfare.

The guest lecturers, Dr. Brett Weigle and Cdr. Mike Posey, from the Department of Military Strategy Planning and Operations at the US Army War College, delivered comprehensive presentations to the participants. Drawing upon their extensive experience and expertise, they provided in-depth analysis and shared best practices in operational art and campaigning. The lectures explored various aspects, including the formulation and execution of military ampaigns, the integration of operational plans, and the consideration of complex factors in decision-making processes.
