ARMY WAR COLLEGE NIGERIA HOSTS DELEGATION FROM NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF LEGISLATIVE STUDIES

In a bid to strengthen cooperation and foster mutual understanding between key institutions, a 13-member delegation from the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) paid a visit to the prestigious Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) on February 28, 2024. Led by Director General Prof Abubakar O Sulaiman, the delegation was received with warmth and enthusiasm by the Commandant AWCN, Major General Ishaya Maina, at the College Conference room in Asokoro, Abuja. The purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities for increased engagement, synergy, and information sharing between the two institutions, with a focus on enhancing national security.

In his remarks, the leader of the delegation, Prof Sulaiman conveyed his gratitude to the College for the opportunity to engage in productive discussions. He highlighted the pivotal role of AWCN as a center of excellence in professional military education and underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing contemporary security challenges. Prof Sulaiman emphasized the need for strategic partnerships between NILDS and AWCN to leverage each institution’s expertise and contribute to the enhancement of national security.

Central to the discussions was the imperative of knowledge sharing and exchange of intellectual resources. Prof Sulaiman stressed the importance of facilitating the dissemination of information, academic journals, periodicals, and other scholarly materials between NILDS and AWCN. This, he noted, would not only enrich the educational experience of participants but also contribute to informed decision-making and policy formulation in matters of national security.

Prof Sulaiman emphasized the significance of AWCN as a center of excellence in professional military education and highlighted the potential for collaboration in addressing contemporary security challenges facing the nation. The delegation proposed partnerships in knowledge sharing and exchange of intellectual materials to enrich the academic pursuits of both institutions.

Welcoming the delegation, Major General Ishaya Maina, the Commandant of AWCN, extended a warm reception and expressed appreciation for the visit. He emphasized the importance of fostering closer ties between NILDS and AWCN, particularly in areas such as legislative research, synergy for a whole-of-society approach to national security, and the sharing of critical information.

General Maina then thanked the NLDS delegation for their visit and outlined the objectives and mission of AWCN in contributing to the realization of the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy. He provided insights into the College’s comprehensive curriculum, designed to equip participants with the requisite skills for effective operational-level leadership in a joint and multidimensional environment.

Among those in attendance were the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies of AWCN, Brigadier General Aminu Umar, as well as directors and members of the faculty. Highlights included the exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph, symbolizing the spirit of collaboration and partnership between NLDS and AWCN in the pursuit of national security objectives.
