 MINISTER UNDERSCORES HARNESSING LOCAL CAPACITY FOR IMPROVED DEFENCE PRODUCTION

 

The Minister of Science Technology and Innovation, Sen Adeleke Olurunnimbe Mamora said the capacity of a nation’s military is enhanced by factors such as it’s level of human, technological and material development. The Minister stated this on Tuesday 22 November,2022 while delivering the graduation lecture titled ” Harnessing Local Capacity for Improved Defence Production” to Participants of Army War College Nigeria Course 6/2022.

Senator Mamora observed that in contemporary times, as a result of development in industrialization, Nigeria has to specialize in the production of weapons of all types due to developments in the geo-strategic environment. He therefore enjoined the Nigerian military to redouble their efforts in research and development with emphasis on demand-driven and needs-based outcomes.

The Minister who was the Guest Lecturer at the Graduation Lecture advocated the promotion of strategic alliances between critical stakeholders in the science, technology and Innovation ecosystem, including research Institutions and industries. He added that the Nigerian Armed Forces’ access to affordable and effective military equipment would help achieve decisive advantage through superior deployment in tackling the current security threats bedeviling the nation.

The Minister assured of viable partnership between his ministry and the military in terms of innovation and technology to support ongoing military operations throughout the country.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya said the Nigerian Army will sustain the current onslaught on terrorists and all criminal elements in the country. He thanked the Honourable Minster of Science Technology and Innovation Senator Adeleke Mamora for accepting to deliver the AWCN Course 6/2022 graduation lecture, adding that the collaboration between the Nigerian Army and technological outfits is repositioning the NA to defeat adversaries threatening the nation’s security.

Mean while: Defence Headquarters bi-weekly briefing on troops activities and operational successes being recorded in the various operational theaters of the 6 geo-political zones of the Country. 

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Commandant Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Maj Gen Bamidele Alabi said AWCN is more committed to the training of operational level leaders in tackling the myriad security challenges in the nation. He added that the 35 – week course was designed to efficiently equip the participants with knowledge and skill on modern warfare to improve national security.
